JAGUAR E TYPE SERIES 1

RESTORATION

What Car: 1967 Jaguar E Type Series 1

The Lowdown:

The iconic Jaguar E Type is the one vehicle that tops opinion polls more than any other as the most beautiful car ever made. Styled by aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer and capable of 150 MPH, the coupe and roadsters caused a sensation when unveiled in 1961, redefining the way in which we viewed sports cars forever. It is on most car collectors wanted list, so when Olly got the opportunity to purchase this 1967 series one, he jumped at the chance.

Despite being last restored 30 years ago this particular Series One is actually in great condition, so it’s nice to for once have a nice solid foundation to start with. The plan is to strip her down and remove any rot there may be and give the old girl a new coat of paint. Olly is also trying to source the original engine, so watch this space.

The plan:

Bodywork: Strip, remove and treat any corrosion, prep body, and coat in British Racing Green.

Interior: Treat and restore leather seats, replace anything that is tired.

Mechanicals: Source and fit the original Engine.
Al started off by stripping the car down.
With the jag stripped-down, any rust was removed and treated. and the car was then rubbed down. There wasn’t much rust, to be honest as the car was in amazing shape anyway, a testament to the guys who previously restored it 30 years ago.
Next up the bonnet was removed ready to get coated in spray putty. It isn’t until you take the bonnet off that you can see how small an E Type really is, it’s all bonnet!

The spray putty has been rubbed down and the shell has been coated in a layer of primer rubbed down once more and is now in the booth ready to get sprayed.
Kyle has now coated both the shell and the panels in British racing green.
The bonnet is back on and Al has flat and polished the car. Next up the interior and roof is off to get a refresh a CW Trimming.
To be continued…….

Look forward to seeing this journey. My dad had a 1968 series 1 2+2 in Primrose Yellow. Sold in 70’s but I tracked it down in 2018. It then was on ebay in 2019, unfortunately out my price range, otherwise I would of loved to have bought it back.
